Philip Grayson Named Outstanding Operator of the Year
The Village of Endicott is proud to announce that Philip Grayson, Chief Operator of the Endicott Wastewater Facility, has been named Outstanding Operator of the Year by the New York Water Environment Association (NYWEA). This prestigious award, presented at NYWEA’s 97th Annual Meeting in early February 2025, honors front-line professionals who demonstrate exceptional dedication, technical expertise, and leadership in wastewater treatment operations.
In addition to this individual recognition, the Village of Endicott Water Pollution Control Plant (WPCP) received the Beneficial Use of Biosolids Award. This honor highlights the facility’s commitment to sustainability through the development and implementation of cost-effective, environmentally responsible biosolids recycling practices.
As Chief Operator, Philip Grayson has played a crucial role in ensuring that Endicott’s wastewater treatment facility operates efficiently and meets environmental regulations. His leadership in plant optimization, staff development, and regulatory compliance has contributed significantly to the facility’s continued success.
Mayor Nicholas Burlingame praised Grayson and the wastewater team for their dedication to excellence, stating, “The Village of Endicott takes great pride in the hard work and dedication of our Wastewater Facility team. Philip’s leadership and commitment to excellence ensure that our wastewater treatment operations not only meet but exceed environmental standards, safeguarding our community’s water resources for generations to come. The recognition of our biosolids program is a testament to our efforts in sustainability and responsible waste management.”
The facility’s biosolids recycling initiative is a key component of its sustainability efforts. Through anaerobic digestion and thermal drying, the WPCP converts biosolids into a high-quality soil amendment that enhances soil health and reduces landfill waste.
Additionally, the facility accepts leaves and yard waste from Endicott and Union during the fall, composting the material and distributing it free of charge to residents in the spring and summer. These efforts contribute to sustainable waste management, resource conservation, and environmental responsibility.
The recognition from NYWEA highlights Endicott’s commitment to environmental responsibility, innovation, and operational excellence. Wastewater management plays a critical role in public health and sustainability, and the Village of Endicott remains dedicated to upholding best practices, advancing sustainable initiatives, and protecting natural resources for future generations.
The Village congratulates Philip Grayson and the entire Endicott Wastewater Facility team on their well-earned recognition and thanks them for their dedication to serving the community.
